The legendary Indian actress Sridevi was born on August 13, 1963, in Meenampatti, Tamil Nadu. February 24 marks the second death anniversary of the actress.

Filmmaker Boney Kapoor along with his daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor performed a puja just ahead of his late wife-actress Sridevi’s 3rd death anniversary. Like every year, the family performed a puja in her memory at the late actress’ Chennai residence in Mylapore.

The Mr India actress was awarded Padma Shri in 2013 by the Government of India. She also received “Order of Afghanistan” in 1991. She made a comeback in Hindi cinema with ‘English Vinglish’ which was globally appreciated.

Sridevi was also popular for the way she looked, even at that age, and how fit she was. She did numerous films in her illustrious career in various languages.

On the occasion of Sridevi’s 3rd death anniversary, here are some blockbusters hit which will always remain close to the audience’s heart:

Chandni

Yash Chopra’s romantic drama made Sridevi what she was meant to be: the top female star of her time. A full-bloodied singing, dancing spectacle, it was the hugest commercial blockbuster of the year.

Mr India

Bollywood’s iconic superhero film featured a relatively unknown cast with only one marquee name to bolster it. Sridevi plays an idealistic reporter helping the invisible man on the job who eventually falls in love with him.

Himmatwala

Paired opposite Jeetendra, Himmatwala – directed by K. Raghavendra, went on to become a super hit film and also showcased Sridevi’s versatility as an actress. Although Solva Sawan was her official debut as a lead actor in Bollywood, Himmatwala gave her all the fame to start with. The film had made close to Rs 12 crore at the box office.

Nagina

A super hit clocking close to Rs 4.75 crore at the box office Nagina might be a real outlandish and hilarious attempt at filmmaking but the audience loved Sridevi as the snake woman especially when she danced to Main teri dushman dushman tu mera.

Lamhe

Yash Chopra’s coming-of-age romantic film may have been a commercial failure at the time of release but has gained cult status since. Sridevi plays an older woman a young Anil Kapoor is besotted with. Many years later, she’s also the woman’s daughter in love with an older Kapoor.

English Vinglish

Sridevi made a much-anticipated comeback in Gauri Sinde’s comedy-drama about a middle-aged woman discovering herself after several years of marriage and a language handicap.
