Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan clarified on Saturday that the state Public Works Department (PWD) is not involved in national highway construction, emphasizing that the responsibility lies entirely with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The clarification came after a recent collapse of an under-construction flyover on NH-66 in Kollam district, leaving several vehicles stranded. Addressing media concerns, Vijayan noted that attempts to implicate the state government were unwarranted, as the NHAI manages all aspects from design to execution.

Despite the state’s communication with NHAI for updates, Vijayan asserted that the PWD’s role was limited to accelerating development initiatives. The chief minister cautioned against generalizing the condition of all national highway projects based on isolated incidents.
