Sushma Swaraj Birth Anniversary: Sushma Swaraj, was born in Ambala, Haryana, India, on February 14, 1952. She was an Indian politician and government official who held various regulatory and administrative positions at the state (Haryana) and national (association) levels in India.

She served as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha (lower office of the Indian parliament) for several years (2009-2014) and as the minister of External Affairs (2014-2019) in the BJP-controlled cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sushma Swaraj Early Life

Swaraj was born into a working-class family in the city of Ambala, Haryana. Her father, Hardev Sharma, was a prominent member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu organisation that the BJP branched off of.

She attended school in Haryana, earned a degree in regulation from Punjab College in Chandigarh, and joined the High Court of India as an advocate (one who specialises in legal matters) in 1973.

As a subordinate, she was politically active as the head of a favourable Hindu organisation affiliated with the RSS that was vehemently opposed to the public authority of then-prime minister Indira Gandhi.

In 1975, she wed legal counsellor and lawmaker Swaraj Kaushal, who served as governor of Mizoram state from 1990 to 1993.

13 July 1975, during the Crisis, Sushma Sharma married Swaraj Kaushal, a friend and individual supporter at the High Court of India.

The Crisis event brought the couple together, who then collaborated for the protection of communist leader George Fernandes.

From 1990 to 1993, Swaraj Kaushal, a senior advocate of the High Court of India and a criminal legal counsellor, also served as Governor of Mizoram. He was a member of the legislature from 1998 to 2004.

Bansuri, the child of two or three, is a graduate of Oxford College and a Counselor at Regulation from Internal Sanctuary.

Vandana Sharma, sister of Sushma Swaraj, teaches political theory at a government college for women in Haryana. Her sibling Dr. Gulshan Sharma is an Ayurveda specialist situated in Ambala.

On December 10, 2016, she underwent kidney transplantation at AIIMS, Delhi, with a kidney harvested from an unrelated living donor. The medical procedure was analysed to determine its success.

Sushma Swaraj Death

On the evening of August 6, 2019, Sushma Swaraj reportedly suffered a heart attack, after which she was rushed to AIIMS New Delhi, where she later died of heart failure. The following day, she was cremated with full state honours at the Lodhi crematorium in Delhi.

1. Advocate career

Swaraj began practising as an advocate in the High Court of India in 1973. In the 1970s, she began her political career with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Her partner, Swaraj Kaushal, was closely associated with communist leader George Fernandes, and Sushma Swaraj joined George Fernandes’ legal protection team in 1975. She participated in Jayaprakash Narayan’s All-out Transformation Development effectively.

Upon the conclusion of the Crisis, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. After that, she became the public leader of the BJP.

2. Political career

She was a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from 1977 to 1982, having won the Ambala Cantonment seat at the age of 25 and then again from 1987 to 1990.

In July of 1977, she was confirmed as a Cabinet Minister in the Janata Party government led by Chief Minister Devi Lal. From 1977 to 1979, she held the Labor and Employment services.

From 1987 to 1990, she served as Minister of Education, Civil Supplies. In 1979, at the age of 27, she became State President of the Janata Party (Haryana). From 1987 to 1990, she served as the Schooling Clergyman of Haryana state under the Bharatiya Janata Party-Lok Dal alliance government.

Achievements and Awards of Sushma Swaraj

She was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in the field of Public Affairs in 2020.
