Tajikistan Independence Day 2023

Tajikistan Independence Day 2023: The 9th of September is Tajikistan Independence Day, also known as the Day of State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. In 1991, the Communist Party of Tajikistan was dissolved, and a resolution on the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan was adopted. This was another consequence of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is one of the most important annual activities in Tajikistan. On this day, many businesses are closed and people ignite fireworks and observe the renowned ’21-gun salute.’

Tajikistan is a landlocked nation in Central Asia with the official name of the Republic of Tajikistan. The country’s capital and largest metropolis is Dushanbe. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. Afghanistan and Uzbekistan contain portions of the Tajik people’s traditional homelands. Tajikistan was once home to numerous ancient cultures, including the Neolithic and Bronze Age metropolis of Sarazm, and was subsequently governed by kingdoms of various religions and cultures, including Buddhism, Nestorianism, Hinduism, and Islam.

Several empires and dynasties, including the Achaemenid Empire, Sasanian Empire, Hephthalite Empire, Samanid Empire, and Mongol Empire, have governed over the region. The territory was then annexed by the Russian Empire, which was succeeded by the Soviet Union. Before becoming a full-fledged Soviet republic in 1929, the country’s current borders were established while it was an autonomous republic within the Soviet Union.

The Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic, along with other U.S.S.R. republics, proclaimed independence in response to the spread of unrest in Eastern Europe that began in Poland. Nonetheless, this independence was declared while the Soviet Union existed. Despite this, the declaration was merely the initial stage toward Tajikistan’s actual independence.

After the failed coup conducted by the State Committee on the State of Emergency in August 1991, the national republics started the process of declaring national independence. The Communist Party of Tajikistan, which had previously governed the country, was also legally dissolved. The Supreme Soviet issued a Resolution and Declaration titled “On the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan” on September 9, 1991, which was duly signed by acting president Qafiriddin Aslonov. As a result of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan was granted formal independence on December 26, 1991.
