The temples from South India are considered to be quite wealthy. A view of their immense wealth was found during an excavation at a temple in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu when 505 coins of about two and a half kilos of gold were found. The temple administration has handed over those coins to the police.

Sources state that excavation work was taking place at Jambukeshwarar temple at Tiruvanaiikaval in Tiruchirappalli.

While the excavation process was going on a Kalash came out. When the Kalash was broke open, the labourers could not believe their eyes what they were digging. This urn had many gold coins.

The temple administration came to know about the Kalash only from the police.

When the counting of coins started to began, the figure halted at 505.

The police say the approximate weight of the coins excavated here is a massive 1.716 kg.
