The Tamil Nadu Congress has extended its helping hand to the state CM by donating Rs 1 Crore to bear the transport charges of poor migrant workers. Accusing the ruling BJP government of cheating hundreds of migrant workers by first over-charging and collecting single journey fare from them, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi has taken the decision that every Congress committee should come forward to bear the cost for the rail travel of the needy stranded migrant worker.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that coming forward to help the migrant worker is going to be a humble contribution from Congress in contributing to the service and to stand in shoulder to shoulder to the poor migrant workers.

KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of Karnataka Congress said that “As directed by Hon’ble Congress President, I request all PCCs to mobilize all possible local resources to help the migrants to purchase tickets to get back home. Please contact AICC, if you need any further assistance.”

Manickam Tagore said that Congress has decided to donate Rs 1 crore to TN CM to be used exclusively for bearing the transport cost. Congratulations on being the first PCC.

With the extended lockdown norms further relaxed, the state government has allowed the migrant workers in the cities across the southern state to return to their native place in special buses within the state and special trains to other states since Saturday.
