Thanjavur: Statue of Thiruvalluvar, the poet who authored Tamil classical ethical treatise Tirukkural, was desecrated by miscreants on Monday, November 4.
The statue is located near a building owned by Pillayarpatti Panchayat. It was found blackened with the mud and a paper pasted. After a complaint, the Tamil University police rushed to the spot and cleaned the statue and garlanded it.
A group of Tamil enthusiasts gathered near the statue and raised slogans condemning the desecration, according to The New Indian Express report. Police protection has been posted.
Police have registered a case.
