Mumbai Police have arrested a 14-year-old girl’s uncle and a cousin for allegedly raping her, an official said on Sunday. The incident took place when the girl visited her 50-year-old uncle’s place in suburban Borivali between 2014 and September 2022, but came to light recently after she informed about it to her parents, who live in Virar town of neighbouring Palghar district, he said.
Her parents approached the Virar police with a complaint, based on which they registered an FIR, the official from MHB police station in Mumbai said.
The case was later transferred to the MHB police station as the incident took place in Mumbai, he said.
The city police swung into action and nabbed the girl’s uncle and 19-year-old cousin brother on Saturday, the official said. The case was registered against the accused under various Indian Penal Code sections including 376 (rape), 376-II (gang rape), and provisions of the Protection of Children for Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, he said.
