Ahead of state assembly election in Telangana, Yellareddy, TRS MLA E Ravinder Reddy promised to provide Rs 5 lakh to the people, if they elect him. Yellareddy said in a recent campaign meeting that “Form groups, conduct meetings and make a decision to elect me unanimously and I will give you Rs 5 lakh”.
Admitting the statement as the electoral offence, the state Election Commission directed the District Election Officer to action against MLA. Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar told media that, “We take cognizance of the violation and have directed the DEO to take appropriate action.”
After complaint made by leaders of the opposition, the Returning officer also filed a complaint with SS Nagar police station in Kamreddy district on Wednesday.
