Monaco (France), Oct 17 (IANS) AS Monaco on Wednesday presented former France football star Thierry Henry as its new coach.

The former striker, 41, would lead the Ligue 1 team for three seasons after Leonardo Jardim was fired due to poor results, reports Efe news agency.

“There is a lot of work to be done, but there is no stress,” Henry said during his presentation, adding that Monaco “has a place in my own heart.”

The Frenchman also thanked Jardim for his work.

Henry, a World Cup champion in 1998, would be accompanied by Joao Carlos Valado Tralhao, coach of Benfica’s Under-23 squad, and Patrick Kwame Ampadu, coach of the Arsenal Academy.

As a player for Monaco, Henry appeared in 141 matches, scored 28 goals and helped the French club claim the Ligue 1 title in 1997.

Jardim, 44, was the coach of Monaco from the summer of 2014 and had a contract until 2020.

The Portuguese coach led the team to win the Ligue 1 title in his third season in 2017, when he also reached the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

Jardim’s last win in 2018 with Monaco was on August 11 against Nantes, while the club endured three draws and five defeats in the first nine matches of the French league, including a 1-2 home fall to Rennes on October 7.
