A three-year-old boy died in Kerala on Monday after slipping from father’s hands during an escape bid from a wild elephant.

The man’s sister-in-law also suffered injuries.

The three year old was identified as Ranish, the son of Ramachandran, a labourer of Anamada Estate and a resident of Muppathekkar Aduvasi Conyin Thekkady, Muthalamada, in Kollegode block.

Ramachandra (39) and his relatives Sarojini (16) sustained minor injuries.

The incident took place close to the Mariamman temple near the Anamada Estate around 7 PM on Monday, when Ramachandran was returning home from the estate office.

He picked up the baby and ran in one direction on seeing the elephant, while Sarojini ran in another direction. As he was running, Ranish fell from his hands. The boy’s head hit a stone and he died of the head injury.
