Kolkata, Feb 26 (IANS) A thunderstorm caused waterlogging in the city disrupted flight movements to and from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday, Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said.

Flights plying to and from Kolkata either got delayed or diverted due to inclement weather triggered by the thunderstorm.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata said a trough of low pressure persisted from east Bihar to north Orissa across east Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

The AAI revealed that the arrival of AirAsia I5 583 in Kolkata from Bagdogra and SpiceJet SG 623 from Chennai to Kolkata got delayed due to the city’s weather conditions.

Port Blair to Kolkata flight GoAir G8 108 was diverted to Bhubaneswar.

Also, airborne flight to Surat departing from Kolkata at 12.08 p.m was diverted back to the city due to a medical emergency. Later it took off at 14.02 p.m.

Kolkata and some parts of East and West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts witnessed gusty and moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm in the evening.

These places received 2-5 cm rainfall during the day.

The maximum recorded temperature in Kolkata was 25.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum played around 20.1 degrees.

In view of squally weather over north Bay of Bengal, fishermen of West Bengal have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off West Bengal and Odisha coasts during the next two days.
