Colombo, May 28 (IANS) The Sri Lankan Health Ministry has issued a comprehensive set of guidelines focused on the “new normal” with timelines on when most activities can resume in the island nation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday, the Health Ministry said that the ‘Advocacy Brief on resumption of public activities during gradual exit from existing restrictions for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka’ is to support the process to occur in a manageable and feasible manner, reports the Daily Mirror newspaper.

This is to enable resumption of economic, administrative and social activities, while keeping in mind public health principles, in order to prevent spread of the disease.

The document notes that bars/taverns, nightclubs, zoos and museums will remain closed until further notice.

The guidelines also propose more online use, including at work and for purchases.

Restrictions on social gatherings have also been mentioned including no more than 10 people at most social events.

The document also said that the resumption of pre-schools will be postponed until further notice.

COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka have surged to 1,469 after the country witnessed highest single-day rise on Wednesday of 27 infections. The death toll stands at 10.
