Wolverine takes the front seat

Sony is making Marvel’s Wolverine the star of the show. In its blog post, the company said Insomniac Games will give viewers “a closer look” at the game, and that the footage will focus on Logan’s “brutal and relentless combat” along with new details about the third-person action-adventure title. Sony also confirmed that the game is set to launch on PS5 on September 15, 2026. That makes this State of Play the biggest public moment yet for the game before release.

Sony is also taking the event into movie theaters through special live watch parties at Alamo Drafthouse locations. The official list includes Raleigh, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, and New York City. Tickets are free but limited. Sony also warned that copyrighted music in the livestream could affect co-stream archives and VOD uploads, so creators may need to keep that in mind.

Some reports say the full event could stretch close to 90 minutes, which would make it one of Sony’s longest State of Play presentations. There is also plenty of fan chatter about possible extra reveals, including talks about Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a possible Haven Studios multiplayer project, a God of War spin-off, and even a possible Resident Evil mention. Sony has not confirmed those extras, so they stay in the rumor box for now.
