Erode: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for raping his 75-day-old baby girl near Andhiyur in Erode on Monday.
According to the Bhavani all woman police said that the accused was a resident of Mathru near Andhiyur.
The man was arrested on the basis of complaint that was lodged by his wife, who said her husband raped the baby girl on Monday.
According to her wife, the man man had attempted to rape the baby two weeks ago. S Gajalakshmi, sub-inspector of police, said that he attempted to rape the baby when his wife was outside the house. She came inside the house before he could commit the crime and warned him not to be anywhere near their daughter.
On Monday, the officer said that the woman went outside the house for some work leaving the baby inside the house and warned her husband not to go near her daughter and thus when she returned she found at injuries to her baby girl’s private parts as the man raped the baby girl.
The woman thereafter rushed to the primary health centre at Alamapalayam, where doctors referred her to the Salem government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital.
The baby’s condition is said to be stable.
The officer said that the man has confessed to the crime. Police have booked the man under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012, and further lodged him in the district prison in Gobichettipalayam under judicial custody.
