Edge of Tomorrow on Netflix

Edge of Tomorrow on Netflix: Tom Cruise’s sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow is ready to land on Netflix on September 1, 2025. The film first came in 2014 and over the years it turned into a fan favorite, even though its box office numbers were not huge at first.

Edge of Tomorrow Plot

The story shows Major William Cage, played by Cruise, who is not a soldier but a public relations officer. He is suddenly forced to join a war operation against dangerous aliens who have taken over much of Europe.

Things change for him when he finds himself stuck in a time loop, waking up again and again after dying in battle. Emily Blunt plays Jody Rita, a strong warrior who helps him find a way to fight back. Their chemistry on screen made the film stand out even more, giving it a mix of heart and adrenaline that viewers loved.

The movie was written by Christopher McQuarrie, who has worked with Cruise on other big films like Mission Impossible and Jack Reacher. It was loosely based on a Japanese light novel.

Movie Success

When it released, the film earned over $370 million worldwide. But since it had a budget of $178 million, the earnings felt a little less than what was expected. Even then, the audience slowly gave it a big boost over time. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a strong 91% rating from critics and fans also love it with a 90% score.

Reviews often said it showed Tom Cruise still had the power to carry a blockbuster on his shoulders, and the exciting action scenes mixed with humor and emotions made it an easy hit later on.

Talk of a Sequel

Work on a second part has been in talk since 2015 but nothing concrete has happened yet. In January 2024, there was a big update when news came out that Cruise himself was in talks to develop a sequel.

With the Mission Impossible series coming to an end this year after the release of The Final Reckoning, which became one of the biggest films of 2025 with over $597 million worldwide, now could be the best time for Cruise and McQuarrie to work together again for this sequel.
