In fact, you can book your sacrificial animal on WhatsApp, with traders messaging you in English to hit a deal. They will even send you pictures of the ‘product’ and it will be delivered at your doorstep without any hassle.
This happened as the number of educated youth got involved into this seasonal business to make some quick money. They are trying their innovative ways to make as much money as possible. While some have started doing business on WhatsApp, some even have logged onto e-commerce portals such as Olx.com to sell sacrificial animal.
Even top livestock traders like Al-Zabihah are calling on customers to book their ‘Telangana Potla’ in advanced. The customer needs to pay Rs 3,000 in advance and they can get the ‘bakra’ a day before Eid-ul-Azha. The rest amount can be paid at the time of delivery.
An MBA, Syed Ibrahim from Kanchanbagh runs a five-day stall near Phisalbanda Midhani. He sends pictures of the sheep and rams to his friends on WhatsApp to tell them and their kins to buy his stock. As per estimation by animal husbandry officials, every Bakrid, Hyderabad sees more than four lakh sheep and rams sold just in a week. This could mean a business of about Rs.250 crore.
