After feeling stranded due to shut down of Thomas Cook travel agency, more than 1,000 customers were left high and dry on Tuesday as tour operator Cox & Kings announced to pull down its office on Russel Street in Kolkata.

Putting up a notice announcing its inability to operate the tours to America, Europe, Australia and other parts of the world, the travel firm cancelled European group tours at the last minute and put hundreds of employees on notice after a delay in raising funds.

More than 1000 customers who had booked international holidays for the upcoming festive season were left fuming. According to reports on Tuesday, the tour operator had canceled more than a dozen tours after collecting payments of nearly Rs 10 crore.

Last moth, world’s oldest travel operating firm Thomas Cook collapsed leaving hundreds and thousands of holidaymakers stranded across Europe and sparking the largest peacetime repatriation effort in British history.

The 178-year-old company several months ago had blamed a slowdown in bookings because of online competition, a changing travel market and geopolitical events and Brexit uncertainty for contributing to its crushing debt burden.
