TULIP internship portal: Graduates, engineers can soon secure internships with municipal bodies

The HRD and Urban Affairs ministries launched its first such program aimed at harnessing the potential of young people to build better Indian cities, young graduates will soon be able to obtain internships in municipal bodies across the country.

The HRD and Urban Affairs ministries launched its first such program on Thursday, June 4, 2020, aimed at harnessing the potential of young people to build better Indian cities, young graduates will soon be able to obtain internships in municipal bodies across the country.

The Urban Learning Internship Program (TULIP) which was launched by HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Urban Affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri aims to provide internship opportunities in 4400 Urban local bodies and smart cities in India.

At the launch event, Pokhriyal praised the efforts of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Urban Affairs ministries for the plan. Urban Affairs minister Puri said that it is expected that 25,000 fresh graduates will receive the internship opportunities in the first year. This will not only help interns gain practical experience in a wide range of activities in urban local bodies in cities but will also help create a resource from which the industry can easily draw resources for recruitment.

TULIP Internship Portal: How to register

TULIP was conceived based on the Budget 2020-21 announcement proposed by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the theme ‘Aspirational India’, an official statement said. “The Government proposes to start a program whereby the urban local bodies across the country would provide internship opportunities to fresh engineers for a period up to one year,” the finance minister had said in her budget speech.

This release is also an important stepping stone towards the goal of MHRD and AICTE to achieve 1 crore successful internships by 2025. Any completed B. Tech, B. Arch, B. Plan, BSc and other graduates can apply within 18 months from the date of graduation.
