Two die cleaning septic tank in Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, had no protective equipment

Two of the five labourers who landed for cleaning in a factory septic tank in Adarsh Nagar area of the national capital, New Delhi died of suffocation on Sunday evening.

The fire brigade personnel pulled out all the rescue operations and admitted the victim to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where two of them died while three were discharged after the first treatment.

According to the report in a Hindi News Portal, the police have registered a case and taken the factory owner into custody.

The investigation revealed that all the labourers had landed in septic tanks without safety equipments, while manual cleaning is prohibited. According to the regulation, the workers cleaning the sewer or septic tank should have safety measures like oxygen masks, helmets, gloves, and so on.

This is the second incident in the capital in the last one week. Earlier on October 10, the landlord and labourer were killed during the cleaning of septic tank in Badarpur area.

At around 7 PM, the police and fire department were reported to have fainted five labourers during the cleaning of a septic tank in front of GT Karnal Road, Gold Factory, Hans Cinema. The fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and started to eject all one by one. Three labourers were immediately evacuated, while two labourers were stranded to the bottom.
