Madhya Pradesh: 55 year old woman dies as hospital staff fails to find ICU key in Ujjain

Ujjain: A middle-aged woman succumbed to death on Saturday after the hospital staff failed to find the keys to unlock the intensive care unit (ICU). The shocking incident was reported in Madhya Pradesh‘s Ujjain district.

The woman, identified as Laxmibai Chauhan, 55 had complained of difficulty in breathing and high blood pressure, a report of News 18.

As per the media report, the deceased was initially taken to Ujjain district hospital on a night on Thursday. After her condition started to be worse, the doctors referred her to be escorted to Madhav Nagar Hospital and took some samples to ensure coronavirus infection.

The deceased was then taken to RD Gardi Medical College and Hospital.

The ambulance where Chauhan was escorted to the hospital, the officials found later that ICU was locked and the employee posted there was not present. Amidst the delay, the 55-year-old woman’s condition started worsening. The hospital staff had broken the lock.

Despite breaking of lock the woman was declared dead after operating.

Meanwhile, Laxmibai Chauhan’s COVID-19 test results are awaited.

After this incident, civil surgeon Dr RP Parmar and Madhav Nagar Hospital in-charge Dr Mahesh Marmat were expelled from their posts for not facilitating ventilator to the woman and another patient, who died later.
