Ujjain: Hotel Clarks-In demolished within few seconds using explosives

A three star hotel building in Ujjain was demolished using a bomb through a controlled blast on Wednesday. The hotel was demolished on the orders of the high court as it was built on illegal land.

Going by the reports, Hotel Shanti Palace and Clarks-In, situated at the main Ujjain-Indore four-lane highway, was built on the land that was procured illegally and was originally meant for a residential colony.

The reports say that the hotel owners were able to build the illegal property in collusion with Ujjain Municipal Corporation. Interestingly, even after the matter reached the court, the owners were able to drag out the process and built another building on the illegal plot. After nearly 10-year-long legal process, the high court’s double bench recently issued the order to demolish both the buildings.

Municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal arrived at the hotel Shanti Clarks on Monday and took the stock of demolition of the building and gave necessary instructions to the officials concerned. Explosive expert Sarvate told that over 70 percent preparation has been made to implant explosive to demolish the building.

The UMC had been deploying heavy machinery for last three days to remove portions of walls and weaken the illegal structure, UMC commissioner Pratibha Pal said.

Police were deployed in the area to cordon of the hotel. Traffic on the road nearby was stopped for nearly 30 minutes, to prevent any harm to passersby.
