UP: Class 6 student hangs self to death after mother scolds him for not studying

In a highly tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy allegedly hanged himself to death after his mother reprimanded him for not studying. The incident took place in Mirzapur block of Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

The deceased identified as Shobhit Mishra was a resident of Bahariya village. Not keen to continue with his studies, he used to often bunk his school. On Sunday evening, Shobhit had gone missing from his home after he was allegedly scolded by his mother.

At 10.30 pm, Shobhit was found hanging with a rope from a mango tree on their farm. According to his parents, Shobhit used to spend hours sitting under his favourite mango tree whenever he was upset.

As quoted in a report of TOI, Mirzapur station house officer Dilip Yadav said that, “Prima facie, it is a case of suicide as there were no injuries on the body. We have sent the body for autopsy to ensure that there is no foul play. We have recorded the statement of family and neighbours and it was evident that the boy was scolded by his parents. We are trying to check if there is any other reason behind the incident.”

Mirzapur station house officer Dilip Yadav said that prima facie this appears to be a suicide case, however, a case has been registered in the matter. The body has been sent for an autopsy to ensure that there is no foul play.
