A three-member polio vaccination team was thrashed and held hostage by a group of locals in Meerut after it was mistaken for National Population Register (NPR) enumerators.

The incident took place on Saturday when a team of three vaccinators reached Lisari Gate locality in Meerut. Two of the nurses managed to escape and inform police about the situation.

As quoted in reports, Rajkumar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) said, “Our team for polio immunisation reached Lakipura area and there some people gathered. When our staff asked for the details of the children to register in the booklet then they misbehaved with them and held them hostage.”

“They were suspecting that the staff was doing NPR and NRC exercise. The staff was rescued later,” he added.

According to several media reports, police has registered a complaint and an FIR was being filed against the culprits for stopping public servant from carrying out their duty.
