In a highly horrifying incident, a man murdered a 20-year-old girl in an attempt to face death of his girlfriend in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. The girl’s body was recovered from the Sikandrabad area of Bulandshahr on January 26. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Poonam.
According to the reports, the couple identified as Kapil and Ruby Sharma were in a relationship and were planning to marry each other.
However, the family of the girl was against it. To show Ruby dead and run away with her, Kapil masterminded the murder of Poonam.
Inspired by television crime shows, the couple decided to fake death of Ruby by killing another girl, disfigure her face to conceal identity and put on Ruby’s clothes and ornaments on the body to disguise the murder of another girl as that of Ruby.

To execute his plan, Kapil befriended Poonam and called her on the pretext of shopping on January 25. After reaching a desolated place, Kapil strangulated the victim using his car belt.
After killing Poonam, the two dumped her body in a cattle shed and set it on fire to hide the identity of the victim. After the murder, the couple decided to elope.
In the meanwhile, Poonam’s family in Noida alerted the local police about their missing daughter and raised suspicion on Kapil following which Noida police alerted their counterparts in Bulandshahr. An FIR of abduction was registered at Sikandrabad police station in Bulandshahr. Kapil, the main accused, was arrested in time before he could completely disfigure the face and execute the final leg of his plan.
During the interrogation, the accused told the police that they were inspired by TV crime shows to kill the girl and portray it as the death of his girlfriend.
