UP municipal election results 2023 LIVE: The urban local body (ULB) elections in Uttar Pradesh will conclude today with the announcement of the results for mayors and corporators in 17 municipal corporations, as well as for chairpersons and members of nagar palika parishads and nagar panchayats. The governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state hopes to maintain its dominance by sweeping the urban local bodies, whereas the opposition parties Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Congress hope to regain lost ground.
News18’s exit poll projection indicates that the BJP will win at least 10 municipal corporations, while Akhilesh Yadav’s SP and Mayawati’s BSP will each win at least one nagar nigam. The exit poll indicates that there will likely be a close contest for five seats. The results of the ULB elections are crucial, as the party that wins the majority of seats will seek to demonstrate its authority ahead of the crucial general elections of 2024. Uttar Pradesh, as the state with the largest representation in the Lok Sabha (80 MPs), is strategically significant in national politics.
In the second round of voting for mayor of the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation, the BJP's candidate is ahead by 9,700,000 votes. In contrast, SP is in the lead in the Nichlaul Nagar Panchayat of the Maharajganj district.
