The Aligarh Police on Thursday booked six persons who were involved in thrashing a 25-year-old after accusing him and his community for spreading coronavirus.

According to the police, the 25-year-old Mohammad Samad had gone to buy medicines from a store in Shivpuri area when he was allegedly beaten up by a group of persons. Mohammad was admitted to AMU’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC).

Had not the family rushed him to the hospital, the injuries could have been fatal, the father claimed.

Samad is now out of danger and has been referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital for some tests.

The Shivpuri locality is near the Rasulgung and Sarai Hakeem areas where three people have tested positive for the infection last week.

The circle officer Pankaj Srivastava said that medical examination of the youth has been conducted. The reports made it clear that the youth faced no serious injury.

He said that FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of IPC at Banna Devi police station on a complaint filed by the victim. He alleged that those who assaulted him had made casteist remarks and accused him and his community for being the career of COVID-19 in the district.

The police said that the matter is being investigated in detail.
