In yet another shocking case of medical negligence, a 9-month-old child died on Wednesday after he was allegedly given polio drops in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. The district authorities have set up a probe into the incident. Banda DM H Lal said strict action will be taken against people responsible.

“It’s unfortunate, this is first the time such a thing has happened. I will constitute a committee to investigate the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against the guilty,” DM H Lal said.

The case emerged just a few days after two infants had died while 32 were hospitalised in Hyderabad after they were administered wrong vaccine.

In September 2018, panic had spread in many states after contaminated polio drops were administered to children during a drive. As per reports, polio virus type 2 was discovered in some batches of oral polio vaccine made by a pharmaceutical company based in Ghaziabad.
