A truck ran over a 6-year-old girl, while she was rushing towards to board the bus with her parents near Etawah-Mainpuri border in Mainpuri’s Kishni area on Tuesday morning. The family had travelled from Gurugram and was going to UP’s Sitapur district.

The accident took place when the family, along with 13 other migrants, was asked to de-board the bus as that was unsafe and was asked in another bus on Mainpuri border.

According to TOI, Shiv Kumar, a daily wage worker told over the phone that his family and some close relatives started walking from Gurugram on Monday. Later, they got a lift in a truck. On Tuesday morning they were stopped by police at Etawah-Mainpuri border.

Mainpuri’s superintendent of police (SP) Ajay Kumar said that the truck has been confiscated. “The driver fled from the spot. He will be arrested soon,: the SP added.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of IPC at Kishni police station.

Kumar said he had returned to Gurugram after Holi on March 15. “But, I could not land a work as lockdown was announced soon after that. Our survival depends on our daily income. Each day had become difficult for us in Gurugram so we decided to return to our village in Sitapur.
