A Dalit widow woman was set ablaze by a man for resisting a rape attempt in Deoria district on Saturday morning. The woman is undergoing treatment and reportedly has suffered 85% burns. She is in critical condition.
The woman recorded a statement in front of a magistrate after which a case was registered against the man.
According to the reports, Rinku (35) wife of late Harendra went to the fields on early Saturday morning where Dilip Rajbhar aka Tarzon (24) came and tried to rape her when the woman resisted the man poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. Following which the woman ran towards her house screaming. Her family members rushed her to the hospital where her condition is said to be critical.
The woman’s father in law filed a complaint following which a case has been registered against the accused under section 376 (rape), 511 ( attempt to offences with life or other imprisonments) and 326 of IPC.
The accused had not been arrested by the time of filing the report but two teams have been set up for his speedy arrest.
