The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recently released the official notification of Engineering Services Exam 2022 also known as Indian Engineering Services (IES) 2022.

As per the official notification, the ESE Prelims 2022 exam will be conducted on February 20, 2022.

The UPSC IES vacancy has been released for 247 posts under the following categories:

  • Civil Engineering,
  • Mechanical Engineering,
  • Electrical Engineering,
  • Electronics,
  • Telecommunication Engineering.

UPSC Engineering Services Exam 2022 will be conducted in three stages – preliminary exam, main exam, and personality test.

Candidates applying for the UPSC ESE exam will have to clear the preliminary exam to be held on February 20, 2022, to be eligible for subsequent rounds.

UPSC ESE Vacancy 2022:

UPSC will fill approximately 247 posts for the posts in Engineering services. including 08 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Out of the 8 vacancies for PwBD, 06 vacancies are for Dwarfism, Muscular Dystrophy, Locomotor Disability including Leprosy cured and Acid Attack victims and the remaining 02 vacancies are for Hard of Hearing.

The UPSC ESE number of vacancies can be altered in accordance with the reservations that will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as well as Persons with Benchmark Disability Category as may be fixed by the Government of India.

UPSC ESE Eligibility Criteria 2022:

Candidates who want to appear for the UPSC ESE Exam 2022 should make sure that they are eligible for the post.

The application of candidates can be forfeited at any point of time during the selection procedure if it is found that they do not fulfill the necessary criteria to hold a post in UPSC Engineering Services.

The eligibility criteria of UPSC ESE 2022 includes education qualification, age limit, and nationality has been listed below.

UPSC ESE Educational Requirements:

  • Candidate must have completed his Bachelors in Engineering(B.E) or Bachelors in Technology(B.Tech) from a University that has incorporated by an Act passed by the government of India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities by University Grants Commission Act, 1956; or
  • A Degree or Diploma from a foreign University in Engineering recognised by the Government of India; or
  • Candidates should have qualified for the Graduate Membership Examination held after November 1959 of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London.
  • Candidates must have cleared the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers(India) both sections A and B; or
  • Candidates should have passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
  • Should have qualified Parts II and III of the Associate Membership Examination or Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or

UPSC ESE Age Limit:

Candidates must have a minimum age of 21 must not have attained the age of 30 years on January 1, 2022, to appear for this examination.

Candidates must be :

  • A citizen of India OR
  • The subject of Nepal OR
  • The subject of Bhutan OR
  • A refugee from Tibet who migrated to India before 1 January 1962
  • People of Indian origin came from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Tanzania or Vietnam.

All the candidates aspiring for a post through the UPSC ESE Exam should have a certificate of Eligibility issued by the Government of India in their favor.

How to Apply for UPSC IES 2022?

  • Visit UPSC recruitment website UPSConline.nic.in
  • Click on the online recruitment link for UPSC Examinations. You will be directed to a new page.
  • Click on ‘Click here for Part-I’ next to the Engineering Services (Preliminary / Stage I) Examination column.
  • A new page with the necessary instructions to fill the form will appear. Read the instructions carefully and then click on ‘Yes’.A new page will appear.
  • Enter the details that have been asked and upload the necessary documents.
  • Click on ‘Submit’ and repeat the same process for Part-II registration. It is necessary that candidates fill both the Part I and Part II form. Only then the registration of the candidate will be completed.
  • Candidates should then move on to pay the application fee.
  • Once the application fee is paid, the application of the candidate will appear on the screen. He/She can download it for future reference.

UPSC ESE Application Fee

Candidates are required to pay UPSC IES application fee of INR 200. Female candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Persons with Disability are exempted from paying any fee.

UPSC ESE Exam Pattern 2022

The UPSC ESE 2022 will be conducted in three stages- preliminary exam, main exam, and personality test. The preliminary exam will be conducted on February 20, 2022.

The candidates will be able to sit for the Mains Exam only after securing the minimum marks in both the papers of the preliminary examination.

UPSC ESE Prelims Exam Pattern

UPSC ESE Prelims Exam will be conducted on February 20, 2022. Candidates must be well prepared for it as they will be eligible for further selection rounds only after clearing it.

The prelims exam will be an objective paper and will be conducted offline. It will consist of two papers and wrong answers marked by candidates will attract negative marking.

UPSC ESE Mains 2022 Details:

Once the candidates have successfully passed the UPSC ESE Prelims Examination 2022, they will be eligible for the UPSC ESE Mains Examination 2022.

The Exam pattern of Mains Examination will be different from the preliminary examination. Candidates will have to write descriptive answers in both paper 1 and 2 of the Mains Examination

UPSC ESE Personality Test

Candidates who qualify for both the stages of the preliminary and mains exam will be called for the third and final stage of the selection procedure which is the Personality Test. It will consist of one paper with 200 marks.

There will be no minimum qualifying marks for the personality test. Marks obtained by the candidates in the Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination, and Personality Test would determine their final ranking in the UPSC ESE Exam.

The UPSC Engineering Services Examination notification has been released by UPSC and the rules for the same have been released by the Government of India (Ministry of Railways).

The notification states that candidates who are interested in this examination should register for it on or before October 12, 2021.
