The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on to pre-commissioning training in their respective service academies. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world.
The NDA was established in 1954 by the Government of India. The academy trains cadets for commission into the Indian Armed Forces. The course at the academy is three years long.
Cadets are admitted to the academy after passing the National Defence Academy Examination (NDA Examination), which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The examination is held twice a year and cadets can attempt it a maximum of four times.
The NDA offers a wide range of extracurricular activities like horse riding, sports, etc. Cadets also get to visit various places of historical and cultural importance as part of their training.
