The US Mission in India has condemned the killing of senior journalist, Gauri Lankesh. “The US Mission joins advocates of press freedom in India and world-wide in condemning the murder of respected journalist, Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru. We offer our sincere condolence to the family, friends, and colleagues of Ms Lankesh,” it said.
Senior journalist and activist, Lankesh was shot dead at her home in Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Naga. She was the editor of the Lankesh Patrike, a tabloid termed as an “anti-establishment” publication.
Post the incident, major protest demonstrations have been planned across the country, especially in prominent parts of Karnataka and Delhi.
