Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Prayagraj MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s 6-year-old granddaughter was burnt to death by firecrackers on the night of Diwali. The 6-year-old breathed her last in the wee hours on Tuesday.
As per media reports, on the night of Diwali, the six-year-old had gone to play with other children on the terrace of her house when her dress caught fire due to firecrackers. Due to the noise of crackers, nobody could her cries, later she was found in a burnt condition by someone.
The incident took place at Joshi’s Prayagraj residence. She was initially admitted to a hospital in the city but referred to AIIMS in Delhi as her condition deteriorated. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment, however, succumbed to the injuries.
A daughter of former Uttar Pradesh CM Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined the BJP in 2016. Joshi is a Lok Sabha MP from Prayagraj and had served as the president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee for five years (2007 to 2012).
