Uttar Pradesh: Citing corruption in fund to deal coronavirus crisis, BJP MLA wants Rs 25 lakh back

All is apparently not going well within the Yogi government which is trying its best to control the outbreak of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh. This is because irregularities in procuring essential things to control COVID-19 are being raised by none other than an MLA of the ruling party.

BJP MLA Shyam Prakash from Gopamau Assembly constituency has demanded his Rs 25 lakh back citing corruption in the procurement of equipment. He has written a letter to the chief development officer in this regard.

In his letter, Shyam Prakash said that Rs 25 lakh, which he gave from MLA development fund, is not being properly used and therefore the amount should be returned. He said that despite asking several times, the administration has not provided him details of expenditure. The BJP leader added that he wants to use the money for the welfare of the people.

Chief Development Officer Nidhi Gupta said that his letter was received on Monday.

Information is being sought from the project director as to whether the money released was used to purchase the material or not. If the procurement has not been made, the money will be refunded. Otherwise, about 18 lakhs or 60 percent of the money won’t be returned to the MLA.

Commenting on this, DM Pulkit Khare said that he has spoken to CDO Nidhi Gupta who informed him that procurement has not been made because of the scarcity of sanitizers and masks in the market.
