Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day 2021: History, Importance & Significance of UP Diwas

This is the third time the state is celebrating the foundation day. As three years ago in 2018, the Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day was celebrated for the first time at the initiative of Governor Ram Naik. Since then, this tradition of this foundation day was started.

Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country, completes 71 years of its formation on Sunday. Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day is celebrated on 24th January. Several leaders including the country’s Defence minister Rajnath Singh, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have greeted people on the occasion. 

This is the third time the state is celebrating the foundation day. As three years ago in 2018, the Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day was celebrated for the first time at the initiative of Governor Ram Naik. Since then, this tradition of this foundation day was started.

History of Uttar Pradesh

The present part of Uttar Pradesh was under the Bengal Presidency till 1834 during the British regime. After several changes, the United Provinces (UP) was named on 1st April 1937.

After India got Independence in 1947, the naming of the United Provinces to Uttar Pradesh was done on 24th January 1950. 

However, fifty years later, in 2000, Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand) became a separate state after separating from Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath greeted Uttar Pradesh for its Foundation day in a tweet. He said, “the land of the sacred birthplace of the Maryada Purushottam Prabhu Shri Ram and Liladhar Srikrishna, the heart of India, the origin of Indian culture. Heartfelt greetings to all residents on the foundation day of Uttar Pradesh. Let us all be envisaged to realize the concept of ‘self-reliant Uttar Pradesh’. ‘
