Uttar Pradesh: Son of former DIG shot dead in Varanasi, accused in custody

The family has refused to give the body for post-mortem if the accused were not arrested.

Balwant Singh, the son of former DIG Sabhajit Singh, was shot dead in Ashok Vihar Colony on Sunday, October 20, night. Balwant had gone to a friend’s place in Ashoka Vihar Colony for a feast. A tussle erupted between partners there, during which one opened fire at Balwant. Balwant was rushed to the Singh Medical Nursing Home where the doctors declared him dead.

On Monday morning, Balwant’s son Anurag filed a case in Sarnath police station accusing Pankaj Choubey of murder. In the afternoon, the police arrested the accused Mr Chaubey, he is currently undergoing questioning in the case.

The family has refused to give the body for post-mortem if the accused were not arrested.

Real estate businessman Balwant Singh was a partner in the Satya Sai Baba Infra Project Private Limited company. The company is in dispute these days. On Sunday, a meeting was called at Gopal Singh’s place Ashok Vihar Colony, where Balwant went with his bulletproof car and licensed pistol. It is said that in the meeting, along with the third partner Congress leader Pankaj Chaubey, there were some other people.
