Navratri 2020: Know the significance of the nine colours

Vasant Navratri is one of the most popular festivals in northern India. It may not be celebrated this year with carnivals and mass gatherings in temples, but some devotees will observe fasting in self-solation.

This year Chaitra Navratri starts from March 25 and ends on April 2nd also called Ram Navami. Mahavir Jayanti this year will be celebrated on April 6th, four days after Ram Navami.

Navratri is one of the most famous festivals and is usually celebrated in the northern region with grand celebrations. This is a nine-night, ten-day festival, where we worship different forms of Durga goddess every day.

Chaitra Navratri 2020 Kalash Sthapana and Puja Vidhi

Vasant Navratri puja starts with Kalash Sthapana. Devotees observe a strict fast for nine days. Singing devotional songs, doing puja and feeding sweets to young girls dressed like goddesses is one of the pious rituals during Navratri.

Devotees fast all day and consume only fruit and “satvik” foods such as potatoes, Sabu dana and kuttu ka atta. Do not add onions or garlic to food.

At the day end after aarti, devotees recite the Navratri mantras and sing Maa Durga bhajans. The fast is broken on a ninth day after the ‘havan’. After Visarajan families unite to feast on traditional cuisine
