Can you imagine yourself being subjected to name-calling and mockery on a daily basis because of your looks? If you know someone belonging from the northeast, being ridiculed for their looks, chances are you know how difficult it gets for them to maintain a normal life away from their state and then managing to take all the heat because of racism.

Due to the COVID19 spreading across the globe, it is paranoia or threat perception of the problem, but a lot of people have started ranting their hate on North-East people because of COVID19.

The reason in most of the cases seems simple since northeasterners have facial makeup similar to Chinese so they are alleged as being coronavirus inflicted.

In order to make people aware of these hate-spewing incidents, some Northeastern students have even released a video where they share their ordeal of being at the receiving end of racism just because of their looks.

The students live in a small village called Chunni Kalan in Punjab and have now gone viral on social media. In the video, a girl explains how earlier, people would call them names like “Nepali, Chinki, Chinese” and now they have resorted to calling them “coronavirus”.
