After Indian skipper, Virat Kohli on Friday, October 11, equalled former Australia captain Ricky Ponting’s record of scoring the maximum number of Test centuries as captain. The Indian run-machine converted the milestone into a yet another double hundred.

With this, the Delhi boy enters the prestigious club of 6 cricketers who have scored 7 or more double hundreds. The great Don Bradman leads the pack with 12 200+ scores, while the Lanka’s former cricketer Sangakkara stands at 11, West Indies legend has 9 doubles to his name while Wally Hammond and Jayawardena are only two cricketers beside Kohli to have scored 7 double hundred.

On Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between India and South Africa, after Kohli scored the 26th hundred of his Test career, which was also his 19th as captain in red-ball cricket he surpassed legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar to become the fourth quickest player to reach 26 Test tons in terms of innings played. While Kohli had taken 138 innings, Gavaskar had scored 26 centuries in 144 Test innings.

During the course of his inning, Kohli also surpassed Dilip Vengsarkar’s tally of 6,868 runs to climb to the seventh position in the list of players with most runs for India in the longest format.

This was Kohli’s first Test ton this year. Before this, he had scored two fifties in 8 innings he played in 2019.
