New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) Vishwas Tripathi, Chairman of the UNI board of directors, has joined the board of STAIRS Foundation, an NGO, “for greater synergy and to provide direction to its revolutionary programmes for broad-basing sports across India,” it was announced here on Monday.

“Vishwas Tripathi has contributed immensely in channelising the energy of the youth in the constructive and productive direction. His contribution in the sphere of social development will be an asset,” STAIRS (Society for Transformation, Inclusion and Recognition through Sports) said in a statement.

“Sport plays a vital role in creating good citizens who have self confidence and believe in fair play, not just in a sporting arena, but life in general. Sports is good for the psychological development and leading a healthy lifestyle, which is essential to do well in all spheres of life,” Tripathi said.

“STAIRS Foundation with a focussed approach has helped youth and children hone their talent and exploit their potential. Sports help to groom a better person, a better youth, a better nation. I am excited to join as the member of the board for STAIRS Foundation. I look forward to working closely with the team and continuing to contribute in my own small way,” he added.

Welcoming Tripathi, STAIRS Chairman Ajit M. Sharan said: “STAIRS Foundation provides its young and budding talents an opportunity to hone their skills. The team comprises highly experienced and dedicated professionals. The system hand-holds budding talents to provide opportunities that transform into big success in their chosen sport. There is a need to give impetus to the youth by pursuing a sport according to their talent and choice and in the process channelise their energy in a constructive direction.”

“We are happy to announce the association of Viswas Tripathi with STAIRS, whose experience and expertise will guide us towards achieving our vision as we commit ourselves to some path-breaking initiatives that will be announced soon,” Sharan added.

STAIRS was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar in 2016 and is recognised by the government as an NSPO (National Sports Promotion Organisation).
