A volunteering Migrant Travel Support group has come forward to help migrant workers amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic. The group has been working to make arrangements for the needy migrant workers and have successfully sent them back to their hometown, said Leher Sethi.

Leher Sethi is one of the volunteer of the Migrant Travel Support Group, she said that the group has been relentlessly contacting the people who needs to go back home and thus they arrange services for them, the group has even convinced some of the people to stay and has provided them with ration and has paid their rent.

She further said that the volunteering group mobilised funds to aid migrant workers stranded across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The group was looking for ways to helping them in a way that treated them with dignity, from providing them food to cash, they are doing the most that they can,” Leher Sethi told Newsd.

The team did their part with full cooperation as Chandrajeet Kumar Gupta works on ground and is always present at the bus stand to see off most of the buses, whether it’s from the bus stand in Chhatarpur or Lal Quila. Whereas the others have played lead roles in arranging shramik trains to getting in touch with migrants.

The team also chose to airlift people who wanted to go back home and had lost their job in this situation.

Sethi, recalled a migrant worker who was convinced to not go back home as he was the only earning member in family and was happy as the volunteer group provided him with ration and paid his rent, the group also assured him with further help.

The group had also facilitated bus travel of migrant workers and their families from Delhi to UP and Bihar.

“The Migrant Travel Support has sent more than 2,500 migrants and are getting more distress calls as we speak. We’ve provided food for 3,000+ migrants going on our buses and on Shramik Trains.

The trains we have managed to arrange via the Government has been a combined effort of all those who are part of Migrant Travel Support and their relentless efforts.”
