Watch: Local journalist covering train derailment thrashed and urinated upon by Railway police in UP

A viral video has brought shame to the Government Railway Police as the clip shows GRP officials thrashing and humiliating a journalist for covering a goods train derailment near Uttar Pradesh’s Dhimanpura on late Tuesday, June 11.

Identified as an employee of News24, the scribe has alleged that he was stripped, harassed and humiliated by GRP officials inside the jail premises.

The video of the assault, widely circulated on social media, has sparked outrage with citizens and journalists demanding an explanation for the ill-treatment meted out to the scribe by government agents. In the video, Shamli GRP inspector Rakesh Kumar can be seen slapping the scribe around. His subordinates follow suit and begin assaulting the journalist despite his repeated pleas.

Taking cognizance of the matter, Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar and GRP constable Sunil Kumar were suspended and a probe was ordered into the incident. The journalist was later released.

Shamli’s Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Pandey said that the senior officials had been apprised of the incident which was “unfortunate” and strict action would be taken against the accused.
