In a horrifying incident, dozens of members of the Tojolabal indigenous community in Mexico attacked a Mayor of the state for failing to deliver on an election pledge.

Jorge Luis Escandon Hernandez was pulled out of his office in the city of Las Margaritas, tied to the back of a truck and dragged through the streets by farmers from the local Santa Rita El Invernadero village.Going by the reports, villagers were angry that Hernandez failed to keep up with his poll promise to repair local roads.

This is the second time that farmers have attacked the mayor, who said he will press charges for abduction and attempted murder. His office was trashed four months ago.

Footage captured later by a CCTV showed him being dragged along, tied with a rope around his hands to the back of the truck through the streets of Santa Rita

It took dozens of municipal police officers to stop the vehicle and rescue the mayor. Several people were injured in scuffles between the police and those who had abducted the mayor.
