In a tragic incident, a 53-year-old man identified as Shakil Sheikh died after being run over by a Mumbai local train when he tried to chase a phone snatcher at Charni Road Station.

The incident happened when the victim, who worked with the Taj group of Hotels as a chauffeur, was travelling in Churchgate bound train. A thief suddenly entered the train’s compartment and snatched Sheikh’s phone.

The report says that Shaikh was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. Shaikh was working as a driver with a five-star hotel in South Mumbai and was the sole earner in the family.

The victim Shakil Sheikh is survived by a wife and two children. Commuters complained that they are not even safe in the train as thieves roam freely in the coaches.

According to Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, SR Gandhi, three suspects have been identified with the help of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) installed at the station. So far, no arrest has been made in the case.
