“Spark in his bowling” led to Pakistan leg-spinner Usman Qadir’s selection for the Twenty20 series against Australia, according to head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq. His recent participation in the Big Bash League (BBL) also strengthened the case.

Son of late legendary spinner Abdul Qadir, Usman told PCBwebsite, “I was desperate to play international cricket for a long time..”That was my central goal. It was my dad’s dream to see me play for Pakistan one day. I can’t be as good as my father but I’ve worked on what he taught me. I didn’t know how to bowl the slider, and I still don’t know how to bowl the googly like he did, but I’m trying to master it. I have a bit of experience of bowling legspin to Australian batsmen, and should I get the chance, I’d love to prove my worth.”

The news of Usman’s selection comes just weeks after his father, Abdul Qadir passed away on September 6 of a cardiac arrest in Lahore.

Since declaring his intentions to play for Australia, Usman had a forgetful time in with Western Australia as he was plummeted at an economy of 8.45, scalping just 6 wickets in seven games.
