Sachin- the adult leopard who was named after the Indian cricket maestro dies due to a heart attack in West Bengal Safari Park.

Park officials stated it seems Sachin died of a coronary heart attack. Samples from his body were sent to Kolkata to examine the precise reason for the loss of life.

Badal Debnath, the park director, said, “Sachin was ill for the past seven days. Veterinary experts were looking after him.”

Last year, Sachin made a name for himself when he infamously escaped from his enclosure at Bengal Safari park. This action by him resulted in preventing the entry of visitors at Safari Park. However, he surprised everyone by returning to the enclosure after a few days by himself. He has been kept under strict surveillance since then.

Sachin’s break out created a panic amongst villagers in the neighboring villages at that time. Drones were used to trace the large cat and four elephants were also deployed to brush the park and the jungles. Six digital camera traps were set up to capture him.

The specially designed park is very close to Siliguri, North Bengal’s biggest metropolis. There is another leopard who is named after current BCCI head and former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.

Kajal, Shital, and Nayan are now the only leopards left in Safari Park beside Sourav.

Sachin and Sourav were both brought to the park from the Khayerbari tiger and leopard rescue center in the Alipurduar district.

The main park is spread across 297 hectares. The leopard safari, where Sachin lived, is spread across 20 hectares.
