The Indian government has recently banned the use of 59 Chinese applications in India due to cybersecurity reasons. The widely used short-video making and sharing platform TikTok has also been banned. The government also released the list of alternative applications for banned apps.
One such alternative for TikTok is ShareChat. The company has developed an Indian regional social media platform called ‘Moj’on June 29. Just like TikTok, Moj allows users to create short videos with special effects, stickers, and emoticons. The target audience of the app revolves around rural areas rather than urban.
The app is available on Google Play Store for free. The app also allows users to download videos and is multi-lingual including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, and Kannada. The app also brings TikTok’s famous lip-syncing function that can be used to repeat dialogues or grooves on some tunes.
As per the Play Store, the app will focus on content around dance, comedy, Vlog, food, sports, DIY, animals. Further, it will categorize around trending and entertainment news, funny videos, songs, Love quotes, and Shayari.
Moj also allows the user to directly share the video on WhatsApp. Moreover, the application has received over 4,000 reviews resulting in a 4.1-star rating. The application has managed to get over 1 million downloads in less than a week.
Talking about the development of the Moj app, it is developed by ShareChat which is an Indian social media platform that was created in 2015 by Mohalla Tech Private Limited.
Alternatives of TikTok app:
There are several other Indian applications other than Moj with the same TikTok features like Vigo, Chingari, Mitron, Lomotif, Funimate, Firework to name a few.
Recently, Chingari app has crossed over 1 crore downloads in less than 22 days. The short video platform is also among the top two free apps on Google Play Store. Ever since the ban, the Indian TikTok alternative, has seen a sudden surge in numbers. The company notes that it reached a milestone of 30 lakh downloads in just 10 days and had even once seen about 500,000 downloads in just 72 hours.
