The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will open for hour’s trade during Diwali on October 27 as ‘Muhurat Trading’. The session coincides with the beginning of the Hindu calendar year and is believed to be auspicious.

The pre-opening session will take place between 6 pm and 6:08 pm. While the opening bell will take place at 6.15 pm trade will be possible till 7.15 pm.

What is Muhurat Trading?

On the occasion of Diwali, Indian stock exchanges hold a special symbolic trading session called Muhurat Trading. The one-hour session marks the beginning of the tradition Hindu accounting year, Samvat.

Block Deal Session: 5:45 pm to 6 pm

Call auction illiquid session: 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm

Closing session: 7:20 pm to 7:30 pm

Trade modification cut-off time: 6:15 pm to 7:40 pm

What is the history of Muhurat Trading?

BSE has been conducting Muhurat Trading since 1957, while NSE joined in 1992. It is believed that buying small quantities of shares during this hour can bring the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
