Ness Wadia, son of industrialist Nusli Wadia and inheritor of one of India’s wealthiest business families was sentenced two-year-jail tern for drugs possession while on a skiing holiday to Japan.

Ness, who is the co-owner of Kings XI Punjab team, is the eldest son of Nusli Wadia and and heir to the 283-year-old Wadia group.

Ness is not a new face ruling the controversial headlines as he has earlier been accused of physically misbehaving with Bollywood actor Preity Zinta. And this this, he is running all over the news after a few media reports claimed that Ness Wadia was caught with 25g of cannabis resin in his trouser pockets.

Who is Ness Wadia?

Ness Wadia the great grandson of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, thus making him a direct descendant of Jinnah. His grandfather, Neville, served as the chairman of the Bombay Dyeing textile company until 1977, after which his father Nusli Wadia assumed the position.

Ness was born on 30 May 1971 into the Parsi family in Liverpool, England. His mother, Maureen Wadia, a former flight attendant, started the Gladrags fashion magazine and is president of the Gladrags beauty pageants. His brother, Jehangir, is the head of the GoAir airline.

Wadia has degrees in international relations from Tufts University in the US and engineering management from the University of Warwick in England. He obtained his master’s degree in management in 1998, in the middle of his career, and finished in 2001.

Till 2011, Ness Wadia was the joint managing director of Bombay Dyeing. Since he stepped down, he has been co-owner of the Punjab IPL team and managing director of the Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation, a company which has holdings in most of the Wadia Group subsidiaries. He is also on the board of directors of several companies, like Britannia Industries and Wadia BSN.
